Facilities Cleaning, Sanitizing, Disinfecting and Ventilation

Requirement(s) Strategies, Policies and Procedures
* Cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting, and ventilating learning spaces, surfaces, and any other areas used by students (i.e., restrooms, drinking fountains, hallways, and transportation)
  • Bucks Learning Academy will be cleaned, sanitized, disinfected and ventilated each day with a CDC-10 disinfected cleaner (tables/chairs within each classroom will be disinfected at the conclusion of class).
  • Hand sanitizers will be in all shared spaces.
  • All other high touch surfaces will be sanitized daily. Staff and students will have access to disinfectants in each classroom.
  • Restrooms will be sanitized daily with a Non-Acid bathroom cleaner.
  • Classroom windows and doors will remain open to increase air flow as feasible during the day.
  • Program Supervisor will train staff on cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting and ventilations protocols appropriate to each classroom and student area.
  • Signs will be posted to encourage frequent use of disinfectants.
  • OSHA and CDC protocols will be followed according to the guidelines.



Social Distancing and other Protocols

* Classroom/learning space occupancy that allows for 6 feet of separation among students and staff throughout the day, to the maximum extent feasible







* Restricting the use of cafeterias and other congregate settings, and serving meals in alternate settings such as classrooms







* Hygiene practices for students and staff including the manner and frequency of hand-washing and other best practices



* Posting signs, in highly visible locations, that promote everyday protective measures, and how to stop the spread of germs
*Limiting the sharing of materials among students









* Staggering the use of communal spaces and hallways









*Adjusting transportation schedules and practices to create social distance between students









*Limiting the number of individuals in classrooms and other learning spaces, and interactions between groups of students






*Other social distancing and safety practices
  • Classroom learning space have been arranged that allows for 6’of separation among students and staff
  • Tables face same direction (no cross-table)
  • Students will be assigned seats
  • Students will be grouped in classes that will move together from one teacher to the next to limit contact between students

  • All students will have lunch in classrooms and will be seated minimum of six feet apart whenever eating
  • Students will not be required to wear mask during lunch as long as Social Distancing are observed
  • Students will be assigned seating for lunch.
  • Staff and students will disinfect tables/chairs and microwaves after lunch

  • Staff and Students will be encouraged to disinfect, sanitize, and wash hands frequently during the school day

  • Signs will be posted in high visible locations that promote everyday protective measures, and how to stop the spread of germs
  • Students will not be permitted to share school materials (pens, pencils, etc.)
  • Students are allowed to have water bottles
  • Backpacks hung on back of chair
  • Physical Education classes will be held outdoors (weathering permitting)
  • Organized play activities- to avoid sharing of materials.
  • Mask will be optional during Physical Education- as long as Social Distancing is possible

  • Strict traffic pattern will be enforced in hallway- (divider in center of hallway arrows directing traffic)
  • Congregating in common areas will be prohibited
  • All staff, students, and visitors who participate in onsite meetings will observe the protocols outline in this plan (Social Distancing practices, protective coverings on face etc.)
  • Staff, Students, and visitors will be required to wear face coverings while in the building

  • Students will use different entrances at arrival and dismissal to avoid congestion and meet Social Distancing requirements.

  • Limiting the number of individuals in classrooms and other learning spaces, and interactions between groups of students
  • All staff, students and visitors will observe the protocols outlined in this plan
  • All staff will be trained on social distancing and healthy hygiene protocol before the first day of on-site schooling
  • Training will include preventive measures that should be implemented at home as well instructions on protocol at school

  • On a daily basis, students and staff will be asked to complete a screening questionnaire for COVID symptoms and exposures.
  • Bucks Learning Academy will regularly communicate and monitor developments with Bucks County Health Department, employees, and families regarding cases, exposures and update to policies and procedures
  • Should a staff member or student become ill or exposed, Bucks Learning Academy will contact staff and student as per Bucks County Health Department guidelines.



Monitoring Student and Staff Health

* Monitoring students and staff for symptoms and history of exposure



* Isolating or quarantining students, staff, or visitors if they become sick or demonstrate a history of exposure



* Returning isolated or quarantined staff, students, or visitors to school

*Notifying staff, families, and the public of school closures and within-school- year changes in safety protocols
  • Staff and students will self-monitor and complete a screening questionnaire when they arrive at school.
  • Parents will monitor their child prior to coming to school (COVID symptoms)
  • Bucks Learning Academy will assess staff and/or students who fall ill during the school day for signs and symptoms of COVID
  • Isolation area will be established
  • All Isolation areas will be sanitized
  • A negative COVID test will be required to return to school/work if testing is necessary
  • Notifying staff, families, and the public of school closures and within-school- year changes in safety protocols




Other Considerations for Students and Staff

* Protecting students and staff at higher risk for severe illness

* Use of face coverings (masks or face shields) by all staff




*Unique safety protocols for students with complex needs or other vulnerable individuals

  • Staff/students will be required to wear face masks or face shield during school (classrooms, hallways, arrival, departure, and when social distancing is impractical)
  • Students may remove mask during lunch and when outside as long as social distancing protocol is followed
  • Unique safety protocols for students with complex needs or other vulnerable individuals


In the event that schools are required to close, Bucks Learning Academy will implement Remote Learning.
The Board of Directors reviewed and approved the Phased School Reopening Health and Safety Plan on July 31, 2020.
